James Matthew Barrie (1860-1937) was a playwright and novelist who is chiefly remembered as the creator of Peter Pan. Barrie was born in Scotland and moved to London in 1885 where he would reside for the remainder of his life. His first successful novel, Auld licht idylls, was published in 1888 and Barrie continued to write fictional and autobiographical tales until the late 1890s.
